Playing by the Rules Blog Tour ~ Review, Excerpt, Teasers, Giveaway

Title: Playing By The Rules
Series: A Portland Brothers Novel #1
Author: Emily Robertson
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 25, 2015
Payton always had one rule she lived by, no boyfriends until after college. No one seemed to agree with her, even her own mother who had her at age sixteen. Returning to school after an accident that flipped Payton’s world upside down left her feeling out of control. Holding on to her rule seemed to be her only lifeline.
Josh had been letting the past rule his life for too long. Finally being at school, he’d become his own man, and he’d been putting all that behind him. Just when he thought he had it all put together, life got crazy. Not only did his ex show back up, but Josh also found he couldn’t get Payton Whitmore out of his head.
Once Josh convinces Payton to give him a shot, she’s so closed off that he wonders if it’s even worth it. Josh can tell there’s something special about Payton though, and as soon as he goes all in, he’s ready to show her that some rules are made to be broken.

“Hey look! It’s Geoff.” Payton pointed out his car pulling into campus and waved real big at him. When he flashed his lights, she knew that he noticed her.

He parked his car in his parking lot and got out. When he was out, Payton saw him wave back at her. She was so glad she had a friend like him. The streetlight illuminated him and he was looking sharp. Payton was always surprised he didn’t have a girlfriend. When an extra door closed, she realized he wasn’t alone, and her eyes darted over to the passenger side, and dread filled her. She tried to whisper, but she was sure that with all the booze in her system it wasn’t really all that quiet.

“Hailey! That’s him!”

“Who? Wha-“

“Him!” Payton cut her off. “It’s the guy I was telling you about. With Geoff.”

“Damn girl, you were right. He’s hot.”

“Quick look away. I think he’s staring at us,” Payton said frantically trying to find something else to concentrate on. She was looking around like a spaz, but she couldn’t help herself. Suddenly she noticed Hailey wasn’t only looking at the guy, she’d turned and was downright staring at him.

“What are you doing?” Payton hissed.

“I’m looking at this nice specimen of a man that seems to be staring at you. Pity you can’t look back, it’s a nice view.”

“What? No!” Payton felt her cheeks heat even more than they already were. She risked a quick glance, and sure enough, he was looking at her.

“Well, do something,” Hailey encouraged.

“What am I supposed to do? I’m not going over there. I’d make an ass out of myself.”

“So?”

“So, I…oh hell,” Not having much reasoning still from all the Patrón running through her she yelled the first thing that came to mind as loud as she could, “HEY! YOU’RE KINDA CUTE!”

Payton planted her palm on her face, What the hell? Of all the things, that had to come out? Knowing she had to get out of there now, she started to pull on Hailey’s arm trying to get her to move. “What are you doing? Let’s go!” Payton hissed at her friend.

“I’m not going anywhere, you can leave without me if you must, but I’m staying right here.”

Payton knew Hailey was playing this card because it was a pact they had. It was best friend rule number one. You never EVER left the other alone especially when it was night and they were drunk. Payton and Hailey always made sure the other was home and safe. It looked like her BFF was using the rule against her tonight though.

“I kinda hate you right now,” Payton muttered under her breath.

“What was that?”

“Come on, they’re on the way over. If you love me, you’ll go, now.”

“Nope. Consider this my Christmas gift to you.”

Payton looked over and realized it wasn’t just Mr. Hot coming, but Geoff was headed their way too. Maybe she could still save this. Oh, who was she kidding? She couldn’t save this. She’d made an idiot of herself plain and simple. Hailey wasn’t doing anything to help; in fact, she was just rubbing it in.

Payton leaned in close and said, “Just remember Hailey, paybacks suck.” She plastered a fake smile on her face when she heard them approach. Turning towards Geoff she said, “Hey Geoff, buddy, how was your poker night?”

Geoff smirked, “Not too bad. I got creamed though.” He leaned in and gave her a hug. It took her by surprise. They’d been friends for a while, but they’d never really been the kind of friends who hugged just because. Something was off. Who was she kidding? The whole situation was off.

“Hey Hailey, how’s it going?” Geoff asked.

“Not too bad Geoffrey. Who’s your friend?” Hailey nodded in Josh’s direction.

Geoff cocked an eyebrow probably realizing he’d been scolded. No one used Geoff’s full name, ever. “Well, this is my friend Josh. Josh, this is Hailey, and that’s Payton.”

“It’s nice to finally meet you,” Josh said with a knowing grin to Payton like it was more of an inside joke.

Payton’s cheeks reddened, “Thanks. I can’t get you outta my head either.” When she realized what she’d actually said, she planted her palm on her face. Stupid Patrón shots. “Anyway, sorry, we’ve gotta go.”

Payton grabbed Hailey and yanked her towards the door. It wasn’t easy since Hailey was busy laughing her butt off. After she shoved Hailey in the door, she turned back to the guys.

“Night guys!”

“Night Mr. Gorgeous,” Hailey yelled through the open door, and Payton’s mouth dropped open. She needed to find a hole to bury herself in.

“Hailey!” Turning back towards the guys, “Sorry, we’ve had way too much to drink. Can we just pretend this whole thing didn’t happen?” She studied everyone’s faces and was mortified, “Didn’t think so.”
This book is a fantastic novel! I seriously think everyone should read it. I got the pleasure of reading the first draft of it last year and then again about 7 months after the first read through. Emily has done a fantastic job with edits and changing things around in this novel. I highly recommend Playing by the Rules to everyone!

My name is Maxton and I’m a trader.

You have to work really hard not to become one of those people. Pay your taxes, keep your friends and family close, and more than anything else—don’t get caught by the Militia. But all the rules changed for me the day I found her.

My name is Sophelia and I’m a stowaway.
I’ve been a slave for almost as long as I can remember. Waiting for the one day, one second, for my proprietor to turn his head so I could run and never look back. Now I'm on the run. And on a planet where no one is on your side and people would turn you in for a good meal or a piece of a silver, being on the run on Landu is the last place you want to be. Until he found me.

I won't survive without him.

I can't breathe without her.

Blackmail Boyfriend by Chris Cannon Review Blitz

Synopsis

Sometimes, blackmail is the only weapon a girl has...

Haley Patterson has had a crush on golden boy Bryce Colton for ages. But when she hears a rumor that he hooked up with her she gives him a choice: be her boyfriend for a month to show other guys that she’s dateable—despite her overprotective and very intimidating brothers—or deal with the angry, cage-fighting boyfriend of the girl he actually did hook up with.

Bryce didn’t know the other Haley even had a boyfriend. He was just trying to get his ex off his back. And now, not only is he being blackmailed, he's being blackmailed by an honor student. His new “girlfriend” has two three-legged dogs, her father mows grass at the country club, and she's...well, difficult. And different.

Can something so fake turn into something real?

Review
I really, REALLY loved Blackmail Boyfriend. It was a really sweet book, and the characters where awesome. Their personalities are so different and it works so well. And Bryce has an attitude that cracked me up. Haley and Bryce are two totally different people from "different sides of the tracks" (I guess that is how it's said). But it worked really well and they got along wonderfully. This book was a quick read for me, and it was cute and sweet and wonderful, and I absolutely loved it. 5 stars.

Little Moments Blog Tour ~ Review

Title: Little Moments
Series: Second Chances #2
Author: Madison Street
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 8, 2015

Think.

Think back to the exact moment when you fell in love for the first time.

That split second. That precise moment.

Can you remember it?

I can remember the day as if it were yesterday: from the light blue dress she wore, to her golden locks curved along her shoulders, down to the shocking tingle when our fingers touched. It was the happiest day of my life, and yet she didn’t even know I existed.

What if you had the chance to relive those moments? Would you take it?

I’ve waited almost ten years for her and my time has finally come.

This split second, this precise moment will change her life forever.

A loud gasp escapes as I cry out, “Oh god!”

Gia yells through the cellphone, “What? What is it?”

“These two buildings are completely on fire! There are about ten fire trucks down the street trying to put them out. Wait, is that the news station?”

I spin around to face the nurse at the station and yell out, “Turn on the news, quick!” She bolts out of her chair and rushes to turn on the TV. Flipping through channels, she lands on New York News 1 and watches as the news anchor describes the terrifying scene.

I yell into my cell, “Gia, turn on channel one right now.”

“Okay, hold on, let me flip the channel. Oh my god! Melanie that’s right by you!”

I watch as the buildings burn. “Yea, I see the buildings from the window!”

She shouts, “Holy shit! I hope everyone got out all right.”

I say a silent prayer. “I hope so too.”

“Wait, Melanie are you watching the TV right now?”

Trying to get a better angle, I press my head closer to the window. “No, I’m looking outside. What do you see?”

“There’s a firefighter riding a ladder all the way up the building.”

I turn around and make my way to the TV to get a closer look. The nurse and I watch as the firefighter drives the ladder higher and higher. He inches closer to the building, stopping right next to a window, and shatters it with a hammer.

Confused, I ask her, “What is he doing?”

The nurse looks at me with fear in her eyes. “He’s trying to get in. There must be someone stuck on that floor.”

A cold chill runs down my spine. Oh god. We watch together as the fireman climbs over the railing of the ladder and peeks inside the window, disappearing into a cloud of smoke. Suddenly the adjoining buildings start to rumble, slowly crumbling into pieces. Pedestrians run as far as they can away from the falling structures, fearing for their lives. I scream out, dropping my phone to the floor as my hands cover my mouth. The nurse yells alongside me and races to her desk, calling someone on the phone. My heart drops as I watch the horror unfold, praying the firefighter is able to escape.

As the buildings cascade to the ground, the cameras locate the firefighter and catch him jumping out of the window just as the buildings drop. He lands directly on the ladder and crouches into a low position. I focus on his arms and it looks likes he’s holding someone. The ladder immediately swivels away from the collapsing buildings in the opposite direction, missing the falling debris by a hair.

My entire body shakes as I watch the fireman hold on tight as the ladder swings and slowly lowers back down to the truck. As soon as it reaches its destination, he unwraps his arms and my eyes water as the little boy pops up his head and looks into the crowd.

Paramedics rush to the boy, taking him from the firefighter as he jumps off the roof of the truck. He races toward the rubble and starts digging profusely. I watch as firefighters assist in the dig before the camera turns away and focuses on the anchor.

Still frozen, I hear Gia’s voice yell from a distance and glance at the phone on the floor. Picking it up, I breathe heavily, trying to calm myself down. “Gia, did you see that?”

Her voice shouts, “Yes! Holy fuck! He saved that kid!”

Just as I’m about to respond, the intercom blasts throughout the hallways of the hospital. “All available medical staff, please report to the ER immediately.”

I loved this book! I read it in less than two hours. I did cry at the beginning as emotions hit me. There was one sentence that really got to me and was perfect.
We can't predict the future, and we can't change the past.
This line is so perfect and describes so much in so few words. It's so hard to describe how much I love this book outside this little bit. There's a lot of feelings throughout the book. And it's so perfectly written. Love love LOVE Little Moments!
