Looking For Love RDL Banner

About Looking for Love:
Looking For Love
Mike Hannigan is looking for love in all the wrong places. Maybe that’s because having his heart torn to shreds by who he thought was the perfect girl left some emotional scarring. But that’s about to change. Summer Patterson isn’t like anyone Mike’s dated before, and he can’t help but be intrigued by her. Now if only he could keep his foot out of his mouth long enough to win her over. But when a secret involving Summer brings Mike’s past crashing back to the present, he’ll need some backup from his best friend and wingwoman, Mindy, to sort out the mess. Will Mike find love before he leaves Timberland College for good?

Exclusive Excerpt:
Curvy hips grind against mine in tune with the music. This girl knows how to move. I lean in so my lips brush her ear lobe. “Want to take this back to my room?” I whisper and then pull away to see her response. Instead, a hand grabs my forearm and I hear Mindy’s voice.

“Babe, there you are. I’ve been looking all over for you.” Mindy smiles sweetly, as if she isn’t the worst wingman on the face of the planet, pulling this “Babe” bullshit to scare away a sure thing.
“What are you doing?” I ask her between gritted teeth.
“Sorry,” Mindy says to the girl, who has now stopped pressing her tight body against mine and is allowing the entire basement of Ace’s frat house to see the mega-sized boner I’m sporting. “But we really need to get going.” Before I can protest, Mindy loops her arm through mine and pulls me away.
“Did you really just cock block me?” I ask her, not trying to mask my annoyance.
“You’ll thank me later.”
“My blue balls beg to differ.” We head up the stairs, and I eye the girls who are on their way down to the party with plastic cups in hand. I smile at them, which earns me dirty looks in response, because of course they assume Mindy is my girlfriend.
“Oh whatever,” Mindy says. “You’ll take a cold shower and get over it. That girl was disgusting, Mike. You deserve better.”
The warm spring air hits my face as we walk outside. “Shouldn’t you be out with Ben?” I haven’t seen Mindy much lately, not since she and Ben became inseparable. I give her credit for bagging a younger man. Though I’m not sure how things can work out for them since he’s only a freshman and she’s graduating in less than a month. But since she hasn’t whined about it to me, I’m assuming she has a plan.
“He went home for the weekend, so it’s just you and me for two days.”
Great. Two days of Mindy lecturing me about relationships and why meaningless sex is a bad thing. “Must be my lucky day.”
She squeezes my arm. “Trust me, you’ll be happy to have me as your wingman once I find you a nice girl.”
“Nice? How about hot, sexy, and ready for anything?”
She shoves me toward her car. “Get in before I question why I bother being your best friend.”
I open the passenger door but don’t get in. Instead I lean on the door and meet her eyes. “Because you secretly love me but know it would never work between us, and the mere thought of losing me is too much for you to bear. So you settle for being my best friend because it’s the most you can hope for.”

SWEET SOUND OF SILENCE

(So Much It Hurts Three
by Melanie Dawn
Add to Goodreads

Sometimes silence speaks the only truth.

Ryder Hawkley swallows his words the way he swallows his guilt. A life-altering tragedy keeps him locked away in a silent prison—a self-imposed punishment for a horrific mistake. His reputation…

Freak.
Weirdo.

Alexis Honeycutt arrives at college craving one thing—independence. Now, away from home and free from her family's overprotection, she attends a party with friends that will ultimately change her life. The moment she spots Ryder Hawkley sitting across the room, Alexis is intrigued.

Dangerous.
They whisper.

The intensity shimmering from Ryder’s haunting eyes beckons her, but Alexis vows to stay away from him. Only, she can’t seem to get Ryder’s unnervingly quiet stare out of her head.

Ryder is determined to ignore Alexis’s contagious smile the instant she strolls into the room. Despite his efforts, he is drawn to her and finds himself questioning everything he’d been holding on to for the past two years.

Although this book is part of a series, it CAN be read as a standalone. This book is intended for readers 17+ due to some language and mature themes.

Grasping the back of his neck, I pulled him toward me again. Despite his fury, he let himself get tugged into my space. His angry breath was hot on my face. His narrowed eyes bore holes into mine. And yet, there was something else—something indefinable.
I ran my fingers through the soft hair around his hairline. His breathing began to slow, and the muscles in his neck began losing tension. When his lips parted, I thought he might say something. Instead, he glanced down at my lips then back up again.
My mouth suddenly felt very dry, so I licked my lips. “To be here like this with you…” I moved closer to him, closing the gap between us. “To see the steps you’re taking for me....I just…I’m sorry…I just can’t help what I’m feeling. About you. For you. With you.” I held my breath for a second, partly thinking he’d fling me off of him and bolt for the door. But he didn’t.
Instead, he reached up and curled a strand of my hair around his index finger, gently tucking it behind my ear. I watched out of the corner of my eye, anticipating the moment his fingers would graze my skin. When his forefinger brushed against the edge of my ear lobe, I shivered beneath his touch. A flash of heat pulsed through my body, lighting my insides on fire. The hair on the back of my neck stood at attention. Every nerve ending on my skin ached to be touched by his gentle fingers. He must have noticed me quivering because his stormy, brooding eyes flicked toward the delicate skin of my neck, where I could feel my heartbeat pounding in the hollow crevice between my collarbones.
The way he looked at me, craving something and yet denying himself the pleasure, made me feel light-headed. Kiss me already, my mind demanded. He looked at me like he could do much more than kiss me. The quickening I felt down below was proof that I’d let him.

 My Review

Sweet Sound of Silence is a fantastic book with tragedy, acceptance and love. I absolutely fell in LOVE with Ryder and his somewhat mysterious background (or attitude? I don’t know what word I’m looking for here). Alexis is so accepting of how Ryder is, she never pushes him. There’s a scene that the music in the background totally expresses what Ryder is thinking and I love how he uses music and art to “say” what he wants to. I also kind of felt sad for Ryder as he didn't want to let anyone in or let feelings grab a hold of him.
And the ending! I won’t say anything to give it away, but I had tears in my eyes as I read it. I had so many feelings running through me that are so hard to explain. This was the first book I’ve read by Melanie Dawn, but I have to say, I really loved it and it has made it onto my list of favorites for this year so far.

He was just a boy.
And I was just a girl.
But if that’s all there was to the story it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?

Falling in love was not part of the plan.
One look at Emma Burke and those plans cease to matter.

Together Maddox and Emma embark on an unforgettable summer of adventures and first love.
Everything is perfect…or so Emma thinks.

This is a Young Adult book. The following books in the series will be New Adult.

  excerpt

Only I would get arrested on my first date. And not even for something cool like smoking pot or indecent exposure. Nope, we got arrested for fleeing the scene—which somehow turned into resisting arrest—and were being charged a fine for trespassing.
“This is unbelievable.” I grasped the metal bars of the holding cell in my hands. “You told me we wouldn’t get arrested for feeding the ducks,” I hissed.
“Hey, at least it will be a nice story to tell your grandchildren one day,” Maddox reasoned. “And we didn’t get arrested for feeding the ducks.” I guess he was right about that—but feeding the ducks, did lead to the reason for our arrest, so it still counted in my mind.
I turned around to glare at him where he sat on the thin metal bench. “You think this is real funny, don’t you?” I shivered, because my clothes were still wet.
“I think it’s hysterical,” he grinned. “I mean, who knew swimming in a pond could get you arrested?”
“Apparently when there are signs telling you not to swim,” I glared at him. He wasn’t taking this seriously at all.
“Admit you were having fun,” he challenged. “Sometimes a little fun is worth the consequences.”
“And sometimes a little fun leads to getting arrested!” I shrieked. “And other times it leads to babies!”
He laughed, leaning his head against the cinderblock wall. “Boy, that escalated quickly. From arrests to babies—does this mean the next time we want to have some fun we try for the baby part?” He grinned crookedly, waggling his brows.
My mouth fell open. “You are unbelievable!”
“And you’re adorable when you’re angry,” he smirked.
“Oh, if you think this is angry then you haven’t seen anything yet.” I put my hands on my hips and leaned forward, leveling him with a glare. “I see your boobs, does that count?”
