Book Info
Title- Curves in the Road
Series- The Southern Devotion Series #2 (Can be read as standalone)
By- Amy K McClung
Genre-New Adult
Publication Date-August 6th, 2014
Blurb
When you build a road from one place to another, it won't always be a straight line. Sometimes you have to add curves to move around the obstacles. Life is like that as well. Sometimes we have a straight path of what we want in life and we do everything we can to follow that path until suddenly a mountain appears and we have to veer off course to get around it. Even though we face those curves, it doesn't mean we won't end up on the same path we started. Then again, sometimes we discover roads that we never knew existed and that will get us to where we want to be.

Derrick Collins lives in Nashville TN with his six year old daughter, Katelyn. Derrick found love once before in a girl named Mary Jane, until she moved away to Florida to fulfill her dreams of becoming an engineer. Derrick's life hasn't been the same since Mary Jane left two years ago. His days are spent working long hours in order to give his daughter a good life. His social life is non-existent these days and he's decided it's time for a change. Derrick sets out to find his happily ever after once and for all.

Mary Jane Evans' life took a different path than she ever dreamed. She moved to Florida for an intern program at Disney. She left her life in Nashville that included childhood friends, family, and the first man she ever loved, Derrick Collins. Now it's time to decide if she will move back to that life or stay in the new one she has created for herself. Will Derrick still be waiting for her? What if she's been gone too long and he no longer cares?

Can these two find their paths back to each other or were there too many Curves in the Road?

Guest Post
Writing Process

When a book idea hits me, I open a Word document and jot down the idea before I forget it. These days I have to make notes of what I go into another room for or I’ll forget as soon as I step through the door! In the document I usually note the story idea and come up with the names from that. Once the names are chosen, I open another Word document and begin writing every thought in my head until I can’t write anymore. Most of the books I start will be finished within sixty pages when I run out of all the first ideas I have. After that is done, I start at the beginning and add in events that lead up to each reveal or major event for the characters. Normally I do not write an outline. The only book I used an outline for was Curves in the Road because it went back and forth over a two year span of time and I needed to make sure each chapter flowed for the right time span. Outlines are nice to have, but they don’t work for me on average. Every story I’ve had started with a different idea for the ending. After delving into the characters lives and getting to know their strengths and weaknesses the endings changed. It’s interesting to go back to my original notes after I’ve completed a novel so that I can see how much the story developed along the way. When I experience writer’s block, my best cure for that has been music. I listen to songs and many times certain verses will inspire an entire scene for me. When I’m at work or away from my laptop and a scene hits me, I email the idea to myself.  After I decided where ‘The End’ is, I start the editing process. I go back through and read it to make sure it makes sense, the time span flows correctly, the characters stay true to themselves, etc before sending it for professional edits.

RM Alexander Double Book Blog Tour

R.M. Alexander
Veil of Secrecy and The Right One
Double Tour
Release date July 29th
UF/Thriller
Contemporary Romance

Blurb for Veil of Secrecy (Shadows, #1)

Rachel Brackett arrives in Sullivan, Montana with simple goals: relocate, settle an estate, and manage her own antique store. Her parents and friends back home called it running away. That’s just fine with her.

Rachel’s curiosity leads her into the forest, and she finds creatures who know more about her ominous heritage than she does. The creatures only exist in nightmares – grotesque mutants and shapeshifters. They seek vengeance for hideous crimes in genetic engineering, and Rachel is the prime target for retribution. While Rachel searches for the truth behind the family she never knew, a bounty hunter stalks her every move. Only Leonardo, a figure shrouded in the shadows, offers protection. A were lion with the perfect blend of human and feline features. Terrifying. Impossible. Alluring.

When Rachel’s home is ripped apart and a friend attacked, it’s clear there is no safe haven. She is no longer running from her past, but trying to survive to make it to her future.

Excerpt from Veil of Secrecy:

“My name is Leonardo. Please, do not come any closer.” The voice changed locations without stirring a single branch or crackling a single dried leaf.
Rachel turned, scanning her surroundings. “Why won’t you let me see you?”
"Do you need to see to know you are safe? Is it not enough that you are well after hours of unconsciousness?  Surely, if I intended to harm you, I would have done so already.” Without menace, the voice changed locations again, now almost directly behind her.
Rachel turned, scrutinizing the fading shadows for an outline, a hand or foot, anything to provide a hint of identity. “Yes, but then, how can I thank you for saving my life?”
“There is no thanks needed, but you have just done so without seeing me at all.”
Rachel glanced to the trees, noticing for the first time the tanagers and morning jays no longer sang. Only stark silence, a forest frozen with anticipation. Rubbing her arms, she dropped her gaze. Why does it feel so hard to breathe?
“You should leave now. There is nothing to fear in the sun – the Others hunt only at night.”
“The Others?” She slowly rotated, waiting for an answer or a clue, wondering if she was speaking to a ghost.  She almost smiled at the absurdity of the thought.
“Go south, following the slope. The thickness breaks in a couple miles. When it does, go east along the stream. You’ll come across a marked path which will lead you home.”
Rachel’s stomach swelled into her chest. “How do you know where I live?” Watching her, following her, made him a stalker. A threat.
A charged lull passed. “Do not come into these forests at night.  They are not safe.  And I can not guarantee your safety.”

Blurb for The Right One:

Big dreams take strength and determination.
Cami Lockhart’s dream is on the verge of becoming a reality. Lockhart Sanctuary, a refuge for abused and confiscated cats, is what Cami has worked for her entire life. But a dream that big requires a daily commitment. Cami yearns for someone to share the dream with, and knows everyone in town thinks Alex is the perfect man for the job. There’s one problem. She wants fireworks with every kiss, not just a friendship with a hint of something more.
Sometimes what you wish for is closer than you think.
Alex Reynolds shares Cami’s passion for the sanctuary, and at her head ranchhand, spends every day helping her dream come true. He longs to tell Cami she’s held his heart since childhood, but losing a lifetime of friendship is a big risk to take. Being by Cami’s side at the sanctuary is better than letting go, but Alex knows someday he’ll want more.
Risk losing everything or fight for the dreams to come true.
The sanctuary is put in jeopardy when ignored threats take a painful turn. Cami and Alex must each chose to stand and fight, or lose everything they dream of.

Excerpt The Right One

“Hey Alex! Which way are we going with this?” Mason, the youngest of the crew at only twenty-four, interrupted the tirade of thoughts, the final roll of fencing forcing a heavy lean.
He pointed westward. “Head out that way first, then we’ll wrap back around.”
“What’s the story between you and Ms. Lockhart?”
“There is no story. We’ve been friends nearly our entire lives.”
“You’re lucky man. She’s sure something to look at.”
Alex’s nerves pricked. “And your boss. Remember respect.”
Mason grimaced as he concentrated harder than needed at the fencing. “Sorry. Didn’t mean nothing.”
“Maybe not, but keep that kind of talk for some place else, not here.”
“Sorry,” Mason repeated and then fell silent.
Alex sighed. Time to start dating again. Cami wasn’t the right one, despite how he felt about her. If she was, she’d be his. Playing the field would help him find the one, whoever she was. Then he could settle down, start a family.
And there was nothing wrong with always being there for a friend.

A Fighter's Desire Blog Tour

A Fighter’s Desire
RELEASE: July 28, 2014

SYNOPSIS

Two is always better than one.

Knowing a fighter’s desires and needs are one thing, but actually experiencing them is another. A Fighter’s Desire gives you not one, but two stories full of hardcore passion, angst, and action that’ll leave you breathless and aching for more.
Part One: Ryley and Camden Jameson, well-known MMA fighters and identical twins, were just as aggressive and passionate in the bed as they were in the ring. They loved a good fight, and that’s exactly what they got when they met Ashleigh Warren. The brothers had a habit of sharing things—including women—and she happened to be the only one they truly craved. However, the problem was getting her to agree to their proposition. It was one she couldn’t refuse, but she knew it wouldn’t be easy to win. Nonetheless, she sure as hell was going to enjoy it.

Part Two: Fighting temptation isn’t easy when you’re constantly around the one person you’ve desired more than any other. Gabriella Reynolds was warned by her brother, MMA Heavyweight Champion Matt Reynolds, to stay away from his friends; they only wanted one thing, and in the end they’d break her heart. She heard it, but the desire to have the one man she couldn’t led her down the forbidden path to pursue him; he also happens to be one of her brother’s best friends. Tyler Rushing can’t deny his attraction to her, and he’s afraid she’ll want more than what he can give her. When he finds out that’s not the case … everything changes. They have no choice but to keep their time a secret, and it’s a secret that’ll stay with them forever.

EXCERPT

PART 1:

“How do you know I don’t care about you in that way?”
“Because it’s you we’re talking about, Ryley. You can have anyone you desire, and the last thing you’re going to want is to get involved with me. Women follow you around everywhere, and as much as I think you’re a great guy, I don’t think I could handle it.”
“Do you not think I’m capable of treating you well? To stay faithful?” he asked.
I burst out laughing, but my smile quickly faded when I looked over at him and saw his serious blue gaze. “You’re kidding, right?” When he shook his head, I sighed and shrugged my shoulders. “I don’t know, Ryley. From what I know about you and your past with women, I’d have to say trust would be a main issue. You can’t have a relationship without it.”
“So you don’t trust me.” It came out more as a statement than a question.
Regretfully, I blew out a sigh and said, “No, I don’t … at least, not with my heart.”

PART 2:

Breathing hard, I stepped out of Tyler’s reach and started for the door, much to his dismay. “Why are you here, Gabriella?”
Keeping my back to him, I paused with my hand on the knob, and blew out a heavy sigh. “I told you. When I want something, I get it. I wanted to see you.”
“You’re walking a dangerous line, Gabriella. I don’t do relationships, and I don’t plan on starting … even if it is with you.”
I glanced at him over my shoulder. “Well, then I guess it’s a good thing I don’t want one with you either. Look, Tyler, I’m only here for the weekend. If you want to see me again you know how to find me. No strings, just you and me.”
